Shapes and colors can be fun and easy to learn for little kids.
There are some intersting Ideas envolving color/shape memorization.
Bath Crayons:
A good idea for young children or babies starting to learn about shapes is to get them a set of bath
crayons. These are a fun and inexpensive way to start your childrens motor skills.
Start by drawing simple shapes, or even just a line. After drawing it point it and tell your child
it's name. Let them pick which shape they want you to draw next. Then give them the crayons and let them try it for themselves.
Learning Charts:
A good learning chart for learning shapes and colors is a matching chart.
What you need:
A poster board, markers, velcro, and index cards.
Step 1:
Draw a line down the middle of the poster board.
Step 2:
On one set of index cards draw the shapes in different colors, on another set, write their names
in matching colors.
Step 3:
Attatch the shapes to one side of the poster board with the velcro, and the their names to the other
side of the poster board. Show your kids how to match them together, and then watch and see if they can do it on their own.
This project is important to play WITH your child. To help them understand that the shapes and names
go in a specific order which can be identified with their colors.
Shape sorters are good activities to do with your kids. Play with them with your children. Ask "Can
you hand me that square?" Or "Can you fit the triangle in this spot?" Interaction with your child and this toy can help them
improve faster, and understand it more easily on their own.
